SEA GRAPES - CAULERPA LENTILLIFERA

 

Grape seaweed is a kind of seaweeds, called umibudo in Japanese. It traditionally grows in the tropical and semi-tropical ocean. It has the grape-like shape, parts of which are hanging on its branches. Therefore, it’s called grape seaweed. Caulerpa lentillifera is one of the favored species of edible Caulerpa due to its soft and succulent texture. They are also known as Sea Grapes or Green Caviar. It is farmed in the Philippines, where it is locally called ar-arosep, lato, arosep or ar-arosip (as variant names), latok in the Malaysian state of Sabah, and in Okinawa where the plant is eaten fresh.Vietnam is successful on development of  sea grapes product with being dehydrated by Japanese specialist nowadays.
